Trail was hard packed all the way, so we only needed microspikes. We even saw grass at some spots on Cherry Mountain Trail. Very nice trail, irregular footing, but not much postholes fortunately. The views on Mt Martha were beautiful, but the most impressive was on Owl's Head! The steep ice climb right before Owl's Head was challenging, though. A couple with a dog right behind us decided to turn back because their dog couldn't climb without sliding. We were glad to have our microspikes. It would have been impossible to climb this ice wall with snowshoes! Fortunately, the gorgeous view of the Presidential Range on the summit was a great reward for this challenge! We also went to Cherry's summit, but there was no view on top. We had to leave the snowmobile trail to go on the wooden summit.
Very nice smooth hike! |
