With the NW wind, I decided to follow Capt Chris's advice and go up OBP and down Falling Waters. Some of the steeps on OBP were covered in a thin layer of new snow which improved traction--but Hillsounds were still needed. The cone around Lafayette was pretty hard, frozen snow and ice. Very windy on top but not unbearable. Aside from me, there were 4 others on the ridge. One (Ken) was going in the same direction as me but the other 3 were headed north on FRT. Beautiful day. As a side note--and this will not be news to most reading this--the weather report on Trails NH was spot on and usually is. When I checked last night it indicated a west wind (flip of a coin on traverse direction) but this morning it forecasted a NW wind which cemented my clockwise traverse. Going down Falling Waters was a bit hairy given the amount of ice but I followed Ken's shortcut around the steepest, iciest pitch. |
