Smooth spring-like conditions late this afternoon on the eve of the snowstorm. A dusting to a half inch of powder from yesterday on top of a frozen granular base with a few tiny patches of blue ice visible from the thaw/freeze cycles. I wore light snowshoes roundtrip and it almost felt like cheating for a "winter" peak. Microspikes would have been adequate in the pre-storm conditions, as temperatures were below freezing, keeping the footbed firm. Overall, snowpack is 1.5 to 3 feet deep. |
