Large paved parking area on the north side of Rt 9. Room for dozens of cars. Maybe a half dozen to a dozen there when we arrived around 3pm. |

The main trail is marked with white diamonds. Lots of herd paths this way and that though. No blowdowns. Signs at the start of the trail. |

I’d make sure they’re leashed given the drop offs down into the gorge. |

After four of us did a car spotted hike over Bear Mtn and Daniels Mtn nearby in Hinsadale, two of us continued over to Chesterfield Gorge to redline the trails here. Note that the trail is not in the “gray box” in the guidebook though so one could argue it’s not needed for redlining. In any case, we made the short loop with a couple obvious nerd paths down to the gorge. Spikes recommended at least near the start although people were getting by without. Then again, we’re about o get a bunch of snow. I’d be very careful with young children or animals here as there’s places you could fall right into the deep gorge. |
