Comments
Comments: We followed approximately the route detailed by Liam. Started walking up the snowmobile trail opposite Shore road. In about 1/8 mile it intersects with the Eagle Cliff Snomo trail (huge cairn), and in another 1/8th mile the flagging for the route to Downing can be found on the left. We followed the flagging al the way to the summit of Downing, taking in the views and a stop for lunch at the ledges. Jar was easy to locate to the east of the view ledges. I can see why an earlier report called this was a real Jewel; fantastic views that would have been better except that clouds had rolled in.

From the summit we headed south. There were multiple ledges on the way down, but luckily I found a chut between the rocks for our descent. At the eastern end of a beaver pond we joined the Eagle Cliff Snomo trail and followed that to the Eagle Point View SnoMo Trail. Took the EPV Snomo trail to the approximate HOL where we started our heading ESE to the eagle Cliff west summit. At the summit, I located a tree with string tied around it, but the summit jar was missing. I poked in the snow, but could not locate the jar. In the spring someone will likely find the jar, and hopefully re-hang it. From the summit, we retraced our steps to the snomo trail and over to the bench lookout over Stinson lake (lovely). We then followed the EPV to the EC snomo trails and back to the car. Great shorter hike with lovely walks in the woods and views.
