The trail received about 6-8 inches of snow during Thursday's storm. I broke trail with snowshoes up to East Osceola and because I needed to get back by 2pm I turned around and headed down. I could not stay standing on the steeper sections coming down and ended up on my butt sliding down plowing a lot of snow in the process. Once reaching the not-so-steep trail I ran into another hiker who was also on snowshoes.
I wore snowshoes the entire hike and could of used an ice axe getting up the steep sections, but made due with what I had. Lucky for me the snow buffered many of what could have been steep treacherous sections of ice. |
