Comments
Comments: A marvelous day above the trees was had by all. Congrats to Lil Squirt for gridding out February. Thanks ladies for busting it out yesterday. We set out for Monroe with the option of Washington, however it became abundantly clear as we ascended the forecasted snow and ramping up winds where right on time. We wore snowshoes basically from car to car. It's mostly consolidated but soft in some spots, and you definitely want televators after the gem pool. We made quick work of the steeps and much to my surprise, the top out from treeline to the hut was not an ice luge that it normally is. We geared up in the dungeon at LOTC before we set out, but not before we had "DRINKS ON THE HOUSE!" It's serious bullet ice for the ascent of Monroe and true crampons or k10's would certainly be the best. I wasn't getting much bite in the snowshoes but we all made it and lived to tell the tale. On the way down, I took us in a more north westerly compass bearing off the summit cone towards the hut to get into the snowfields on that side of Monroe, so if we fell, it wouldn't be ice and rock but snow. Great fun sledding down Monroe here! We scrapped the Washington idea, though did note two people coming from that direction. Epic buttsledding was had and I think we where at the Gem Pool in less than 20 minutes, if you heard a loud boom, that was likely us achieving Mach 1. Uneventful on the way out aside from the skier on the Cog.
