Bare booted from Lafayette Campsite to Lonesome Lake Hut - microspikes may have been helpful on certain steeper sections but not necessary. On the other side of Lonesome Lake heading up to Kinsman Ridge, we(3 of us) put on snowshoes and wore them for the rest of the day. Kinsman Ridge from The Lonesome Lake trail up to the Cannon summit was only partially broken, especially on the steep portions. Snowshoes with good teeth were incredibly helpful (as a group with only microspikes were having a hard time getting purchase). Successful summit of the tower on Cannon and back down Hi-Cannon, where the ladder was tricky with snowshoes but doable. Hopefully we broke out the trail enough with our snowshoes to make it easier for others. More snow coming though, so definitely recommend snowshoes (at least carry) from now through next week. |
