York Pond Trail to Bunnel Notch were all fantastic shape, snow-wise. We snowshoed car to summit and back and were the first on the trail out of York Pond TH Sunday morning - there were lots of evidence of barebooters leaving 4" deep heel divots on Bunnel Notch which were essentially covered on the trek out. Saw folks snowshoeing and other folks carrying snowshoes.
The fresh snow from last week is solid but NOT hard enough to bareboot - this is clearly still snowshoe weather, if not for yourself, wear them for the folks who come after you - we need several days/nights of freeze/thaw cycles for trails to be hard enough for spikes only, not there yet on Cabot as of Sunday.
Sadly the trek over from the cabin to the true summit was shredded by barebooters, already. Definitely still snowshoe season.
Intended to snowshoe the loop but with minus 10-degrees to start, we were content with an out and back, especially after reports of someone ahead of us who said the tracks down seemed to be floundering, save that for another day.
Attached below is a write up of yesterdays hike and mixing in any of my other Unknown Pond loops from the past few years - really it was just a reason to dig up history on the trails, enjoy!
Happy climbing! |
