I attempted Middle Sister today but got turned around when I started sinking up to my thighs in snow, despite wearing snowshoes. The Middle Sister trail was just too heavily drifted in and being solo, I have an aversion to spruce traps. Nice day up there though. For what it's worth, I did summit "first" sister or "third" sister. Not sure where the count starts. Champney Falls Trail is boot packed up to the Pitcher/Champney Falls Loop junction. Above that, you'll want snowshoes as the snow is very loose, deep, and unconsolidated. Of course, this will all change tonight when we get snow. |
