Date of Hike: Monday, February 27, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Small parking area 0.8mi from Rt 3 along Cummings Hill Rd where it turns sharply south. The small lot was well plowed. Just one other car there at 3:30pm. We were the only ones there when we returned around 4:30pm. Room for about a half dozen or so I think.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of the brook at the base of the falls has a footbridge. We crossed the brook at the top of the falls as well and it was weakly snow bridged. Even with collapsing snow bridges though, it shouldn’t be too hard to cross.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: If memory serves correctly, both trails were blazed in somewhat old yellow. Still visible though. Trails jcts were well signed. I don’t recall any blowdowns.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good trail for dogs and I don’t think there were any signs prohibiting them but I believe it did clearly state that they needed to be leashed at all times and kept under control.
Bugs
Bugs: None
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: Second hike of the day after Paradise Point. Glad to get another one in with a dear friend before heading to work. We hiked the loop counterclockwise, hiking Newton Trail first, the opposite of the way the book describes. The trails were broken out though diverging trails shown on the area’s maps but not on Gaia or described in the guidebook were not. The spur to the top of the falls was quite steep and a little scrambly. Not too much ice and not too treacherous but could unnerve some people. Trails were easy to follow but then again they were broken out ;P The falls were iced over. Would be interesting to come back and see them when they’re really flowing in spring! Gaia had us at 1.5-1.75mi, 100ft of gain, 45min. Very family friendly hike :)
