Comments
Comments: Gee, there's a lot of snow up on Hedgehog! The east side of the UNH loop was broken out this morning by Rebecca who stopped at the East ledges and hiked back the way she came in. A second hiker retraced her steps and also turned back at the East Ledges. The trail surface is deep unpacked powder. I continued around the loop and broke out the south and west sides of the loop. I was wearing 25" lightning ascents and still sinking in about 1-2 feet. The snow got sticky on the south side and I had snowballing on my snowshoes, but that moderated on the way down. The east side, while blazed, can be a bit tricky to follow as it loops over the ledges and up to the summit. I've been there before so I knew what to expect.
It was a gorgeous day with great views of Passaconaway, Potash, Chocorua, and the Carrigain complex. Moriah, my hedgehog, also enjoyed herself. Snowshoes are a MUST! More snow coming.
