Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: [NB: I am not well-versed in dog types] Encountered one leashed 8-month old poodle-type dog at the parking lot. Saw one lab-type dog running down with skier on the snowmobile trail. Husky (or similar-type) dog come upon me silently about 4/10 from summit. Didn't see the owners. Dog stayed at my heel until the owners finally called out. As they passed me, they said the dog really likes jerky and joked/hoped I didn't have any in my bag. I laughed, because I had some!
Bugs
Bugs: One little winged bug of some kind in a ski rut. Poor thing! He looked cold.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None.

Comments
Comments: Three cars at trailhead---one in the lot and the others on the road. Passed four snowshoers right at the beginning of my road walk. I wondered if I had started my ascent a little too late in the day. Lots of snowmobilers today packed down the snow from Saturday's (3/4/2023) storm which made the road walk up to the trailhead easier. Glad to see that the Winslow Trail was packed down finely by snowshoers. Two snowshoers passed me near the summit and gave me snowshoe tips as I'm a newbie to winter hiking. Summit was looking pretty dark and overcast, but then the sun peaked out and you could see for miles. Stunning views (I've seen them in all seasons now! YAY!). But the wind was pretty brisk, so I didn't stay too long. On the descent, my snowshoe prints had already been blown away, so I was happy to see a cairn. I passed a skier who was making his way up to the summit in skis. A few seconds later, I met a couple who were bare-booting it up to the summit. The walk down was a bit of a bummer because the bare boots left divots. I reckon there's about 4 feet of snow right now, give or take a couple of feet. There were no exposed rocks. The Barlow Trail was not packed down at all so I opted to stay on the Winslow Trail, although I believe two snowmobilers were breaking through as I was near the playground equipment. I am a sloth-hiker and a first time winter hiker, so it took me 4 hours up and back.
