Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Kinsman, South Kinsman, NH
Trails
Trails: Mt. Kinsman Trail, Kinsman Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, March 5, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Two things to note. It did not appear that the lot had been plowed from the Friday/Satrday storm or maybe it was plowed and then another 5 inches came along. Also, there used to be a brown hiker sign roadside at the parking lot and it seems to be missing. All the cars I saw had high clearance and 4 wheel drive. This was helpful for the end near the road which was deepest and in the deep parking area.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Wonderfully maintained trail. Saw 2 tiny bentover small branches/trees overhanging the trail about 1.5 inches in diameter. One abut .75 miles before junction of Mt Kinsman Trail and cutoff and Bald Peak; nearly identical bentover branch about midway between N and S Kinsman.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good trail for dogs, some streams to drink from. Bald Peak is a popular destination for canines.

Comments
Comments: I was the third car to arrive today after yesterdays storm. There were a couple sets of snowshoe tracks and some paw prints. The paws and owner went just to Bald Peak. Another hiker passed them and broke trail up from Mt Kinsman Trail to the ridge. There was a good base and the snow was wet and sticky so it started to pack down well. If going out there this week, snowshoes will be the least fatiguing traction as the trails are not firm in spots and there was a small amount of drifting. Also between some wind knocking snow off trees and snow showers, tracks were filling in sporadically in sections. Kinsman Ridge Trail was more packed down due to slightly more traffic. The steeps were a delight in televators and there was no exposed ice making the snowshoes very effective.
