 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked across the street from Star King Rd in the plowed lot. A jeep drove up to the summer trailhead no problem. Someone else tried it and must have gotten stuck while I was hiking because the road was pretty churned up. |

Parked at the winter lot and started up the road first thing Sunday morning. The trail was broken out from Saturday afternoon following the storm and there was one couple in snow shoes ahead up in front of me. Even after passing them halfway up, the trail wasn't drifted over at all. They said they were headed for South Weeks, so they're going to have some trail breaking fun after the Waumbek summit- the tracks ended there.
On my way down I passed 5 others in snowshoes. I was thinking in my head how beautiful the track was looking as I passed over Star King on my descent, and then I ran into a crew of 6-7 barebooters that were annihilating the trail. Even with the trail packed down, the snow was still soft enough that they were shelling into oblivion.
Luckily everyone else that was starting up was wearing shoes, so hopefully it's enough to smooth it back out.
No views as the summits were in the clouds, but still a fun, windless day in the snow. |
