A but of small branches down as well as several leaning trees. Observed a tree that looked like it was slowly splitting at the midline - the left side was literally being pushed away from said midline by the wind. |

The best way to hike Tecumseh is at night. The bottom mile was well consolidated, 2nd mile minor drifting, the last .3mi quite drifted. As far as the loop, right side looked rough, so started left (even though we knew we'd get blasted by the wind). Ultimately, this caused a bit of a spirited discussion as this wee lassie didn't feel like walking through drifts that had the potential to be chest and shoulder height. So, pivoted right and out of the wind we went. Drifting still there, but more manageable for the 5'1" and under crowd (maybe 5'4", but I wouldn't know). Broke a lovely trail through said drifts to the summit, whilst dancing around some bowed trees. A very fast tap and go on the summit and down I went with companion following, shortly after. Our tracks were already drifted over on that top .3 or so, so don't expect to follow them - use your head instead! Winds generally buffered by the trees, but it was howling above us.
Yea though it may be meteorological spring, snowshoes my dear, snowshoes... |
