Comments
Comments: Mostly amazing snowpack throughout, except for a short section of deep postholes on the sidehill section of the A-Z trail just before the steep section near the Mt Tom Spur intersection and then another short postholed and drifted section just below the Mt Avalon spur trail. Snow is still loose on top, so I wore snowshoes from start to finish (up Avalon to A-Z, up Mt Tom spur, then Willey Range to Field and down Avalon), most other people had snowshoes on too. Avalon trail steep sections above and below the Mt Avalon spur were impossible not to butt-slide down and I'd recommend not going up that way while there is so much snow right now and not very good grip for the steeps with loose snow on top (it was fairly easy to maintain control while sliding down due to the high snowpack). These were a perfect choice while the exposed peaks were getting 40-100+ winds!
