Trail is in great, great shape! Proper snowshoe/ski track all the way to the summit making for solid footing (not solid enough for spikes/bare boots given the warm afternoons).
Trail was drifted completely over ascending the switchbacks but for the most part easy to navigate if you have any idea of where the path should go.
Took the snowmobile path over to the Stinson/Stinson NE Peak col and began the bushwhack. Some deep powder across the flat to start so I opted to ascend the first knob and gain the ridge which seemed to be the way to go, 6" loose powder & bushwhacking through balsam fir across the first hump and into beautiful open spruce where the snow got considerably deeper and winds stronger.
Found the fir tree where the original canister was tied and ~10' further to reach the high point. Found the cord tied to the tree but (unfortunately) no register/canister, maybe it's under the snow pack but I wasn't going to start digging!
Beautiful woods to roam and avoid the higher summits until these winds calm down. For photos and a brief rambling write up, check out the link below. Enjoy!
Happy Climbing! |
