From vehicle, snowshoed on snomo trail 154 approx 2.3 mi. to a major jct. Here, trail 154 continues N, and a connector trail goes SE to join snomo trail 5. We took this connector trail for about 15 minutes until we encountered a huge, gated logging road coming from the N. Walked up this road approx 15 minutes to bw starting point. Previous posts have well described the bw to the summit.
Fortunately summit jar was wrapped in orange tape otherwise we would have never found it. This area is choked with smaller spruce trees. The snow laden boughs almost thoroughly hide the jar.
breaking effort - moderate, sinking 6-12” in nice powder
tree density - nearly all wide open hardwoods, some thicker, larger spruce just beyond the cliff band, very sprucy at immediate summit area
grades - easy, including getting around the cliff band |
