 | Comments: |
Spikes were appropriate on the road walk as it was solid ice in the morning and soft ice in the afternoon. We switched to snowshoes at the trailhead and they were definitely the right choice. Snow was very soft with considerable drifting throughout. Due to the temperature being warm, plus some strong sun in the morning, we had to contend with lots of botting, but even with that snowshoes were the correct choice. We actually planned to sled down Carriage Road, but the soft snow did not make for good sledding and without snowshoes on we were postholing all over the place. Sleds were stowed and snowshoes came back out. |
