Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I am the trail adopter. My plan was to hike the loop and address the eye-pokers that are currently at my head and shoulder level, as I am only 5’3” and the snowpack makes it really easy for me to deal with these now! I was successful!! Additionally, I found one new blowdown, so my Silky Saw was happy. The forest service knows about the duck under near the East Ledges, and about the hung up tree dangling over the trail on our new relocation, and they are planning to address both of those issues. Thank you!!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn’t see one but did see a giant new pile of poop near the trailhead when I returned. Hopefully the pup and it’s humans were out on a trail and took care of it when they returned!!
Bugs
Bugs: Snow fleas. Gazillions of them!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing today.

Comments
Comments: I hiked the loop counterclockwise and crossed paths with one hiker headed clockwise. Snowshoes are essential as the snowpack is mushy and the warm temperatures are just going to make that more of a problem. For the next few days you can safely leave your microspikes in your car because there is no ice at all - it’s so warm (including overnight) that the snow is just melting and not refreezing. The trail base is not firm. Even right at sunrise, today, the trail was soft.
The loop to the East Ledges is more broken-out than the west side (to the summit). As of this morning, no one has been up to Allen’s Ledge since the last big storm. Special thanks to Philip W for breaking the West side and the back trail to the East Ledges out after the last storm. I could see each and every snowshoe print that he left!! I did my best to alternate steps to try to smooth out the trail, and was mostly successful. :)
