Comments: The Black Cap Connector Trail was a mess. It is amazing how much impact one postholer can have on a trail. I did an out-and-back from Thompson Rd. Pretty tough conditions from the Middle Mtn Tr Junction to the Mason Brook Trail Junction. From that point on the connector trail follows a snowmobile trail to the summit of Black Cap, which was well-traveled. Still, the snow got slushier as the day progressed and I found myself barebooting the spur trail to Black Cap because I was experiencing so much snow clumping. On the way down I switched back to snowshoes at the Mason Brook Tr Junction and wore them back to the Middle Mtn Trail junction again. I also broke out a 0.1 mile chad that I'd missed on Tuesday of the Peak Mtn Connector. Beautiful day, although this hike was a long more challenging than I expected. Please wear snowshoes when the snow is this soft!
