 | Dog-Related Notes: |
My dogs found Jackson 10X easier than when we hiked it in the fall. (They don’t like scrambles) They only saw one rock all day, and it was the ledge at the final scramble to the summit. All other scrambles and boulders were under feet of snow.
Two very small open water areas to sip. Plenty of snow to chomp on. |

As of 3:30 pm, Webster cliff trail is NOT broken out in either direction from the summit, neither is the Webster branch of Webster-Jackson Trail.
Don’t let the first 0.1 miles fool you, that beautifully packed trail goes to Elephant Head. My pups and I were the only ones climbing Jackson today. (Again, as of 3:30) The trail had traffic during the storm, but nothing since then, so I was breaking through 2-8” with deeper drifts for the first 2 miles. It was dry, light powder, very easy. The last 1/2 mile involved wind-packed drifts up to hip deep which was a bit more work.
On the way back down, the snow was starting to get sticky as it warmed up so I tried to keep the pups in front of me so I could smooth out their paw print holes a bit.
Trail is roughly broken, needs more snowshoes. The parts down low that thawed a bit today could potentially be spike-worthy after a freeze, but you’ll need your snowshoes higher up so don’t leave them in the car. |
