Comments
Comments: Despite all the recent snow and the high wind on Wednesday, the trail was well packed out with a stable monorail [??? Why would there be monorail after a snow storm??? Monorail is by definition elevated above the adjacent snowpack]. There was only very minor drifting which is now all packed down. There were 14 hikers in our group with five in the front in snowshoes and the rest in micro-spikes. The warm conditions led to clumping of snow on the bottom of the footgear, but otherwise a smooth hike to the top with most of the group butt-sliding to the bottom. The warm weather in the forecast will soon make the ice bridge impassable, so be prepared to take the detour west on the Kanc to the forest road to get around the water crossing. A great day to be out in the Whites!
