A magical day in the mountains. Drove through ominous looking weather and rain in the Franconia notch which gave me pause. But the sun was peaking out as I headed north and was on full display by the time I got to the hut!
Trails were in excellent shape. Snowshoes for the entire day. I carried crampons but left them at the "yard sale" with a lot of other gear and other peoples backpacks for the climb up Madison. Some icy patches there but, easy to get around. The sad thing is the trail seems to be off route at the beginning of the last little ridge for Madison and especially as the snow melts, some sensitive alpine vegetation is getting trampled. So many other hikers out today Most completing the hike with snowshoes, door to door. Many hiking Madison and Adams. Perfect day for it! |
