Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Dummer Ponds Road, Phillips Brook Road to intersection with Trio Ponds Road was plowed and obviously frozen mud that wouldn't be frozen much longer. Parked on edge of road. Return trip was a mud truckers paradise, eeeek, my car would have still been there. Logging truck mixed mud over frozen mud and ponds of water. Thankfully Bryan drove us in his truck and it was a fun ride back out to route 16.

Comments
Comments: Perfect day to nab Whitcombs South and Middle. Bonus to be able to drive all the way to Trio Ponds Road which is a snowmobile trail this time of year still. We bare booted down Trio Ponds and followed the logging road route that Bryan & Zachary did in 2017 and lucky us someone had recently road their snowmobiles up it but we did put on our snowshoes here since it was crazy packed out. We made quick work up to about 2700 feet where I followed a good moose path up in pretty decent woods leaving some thicker spruce behind. Then we slabbed on 3k contour to the col between the bump and South Whitcomb. Yes I went around every blowdown and steep climb and it was a nice cold morning sinking only a few inches in the snow, Heavenly line and snowshoe conditions all the way to the recognized highpoint. We backtracked to the col and then when straight north on the west side of the subpeak-bump and then all way way up the ridge to Middle Whitcomb. Again we signed into the register and Liam was the last visitor to sign in to both peaks. We then followed our tracks back, happy we weren't sinking any further. By the time we hit the logging road/snowmo track the sun really came out. We enjoyed nice views of the Mahoosucs and into Maine as we headed down. We took our snowshoes off when we reached the snowmobile trail and barebooted back. Back at the truck by 1:20, beating Spring by more than four hours, yipeee. Again thank you Bryan for driving me out on that crazy muddy road and joining me on my NHH200 Winter list finish. I owe you a truck wash. (route was just under 10 miles)
