| Water Crossing Notes: |
The one larger crossing isn't bridged, but with a little care, you could rock hop across. Water levels were fairly low. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns along the route (though I'm drawing a blank on where they were now). My guess is by the time the snow melts, you'll be able to walk under them. |

This whole route is in amazing condition! Huge props to the crew that broke it out after the recent storm, and big thanks to everyone else for continuing to keep it in great condition. We opted for spikes up the the start of Engine Hill bushwhack in the morning. The snowpack was solid. At the bushwhack, we put on snowshoes and kept them on for the rest of the day. You will absolutely want snowshoes for the bushwhack, as the snowpack isn't solid yet and there's some drifting.
Luckily for us, we timed our summit perfectly, and got amazingly clear views - even Mt. Washington was fully visible. On the descent, snowshoes were a must with the warming temps and bright sun. Parts of the trail were turning to mashed potatoes.
One small warning: there are numerous postholes on Rocky Branch Trail, but they are mostly off the edge of the snowpack. Just use caution so you don't roll an ankle! |
