Began along 19-Mile Brook trail for just over a mile (at 8am), which was packed solid (not icy yet) with just a few deep post holes off-center. Crossed the brook at the pool/small dam and began climbing/bushwhacking from there. Beautiful open hardwood down low slowly turned into a surprisingly open and easy to snowshoe boreal forest nearing the summit, plenty of spruce/fir/birch but never too tight. Snow was supportive (off-trail) down low but around 2800' turned into 10" deep breaking up hill. Spots where the canopy opened up were hard packed from the recent sun and freeze/thaw, under the tree canopy was considerably still deep powder.
The descent was a blast through deep powder on the snowshoes, gliding with every step. Totally amazing climb today from start to finish.
Check out the link below if you're interested in a bit more of an in-depth write up with the good ol' color photography. Enjoy!
Happy Climbing! |
