Best to bring snowshoes with the warmer weather approaching. I was finished with my hike by 1:00 before the sun did any softening of the trail so spikes start to finish were just fine although I used my snowshoes up top where it got steeper just for the heel lifts and for flattening a spot to sit at lookout. Great butt sledding conditions if that’s your thing (it’s definitely my thing! But I understand why certain folks frown upon it). There are some scattered postholes throughout but easily avoidable. Also watch out for a sharp stick in the eye due to snow depth. I did not do the whole loop. Just South peak and back due to a time crunch I had and also only needed South for my spring list. Overall the beginning of spring brought me the best winter conditions of the whole season! |
