 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Took the Trestle trail on the way out. The crossing of Zealand River was fully bridged in several places near the washed out bridge, but the ice thickness was less than trustworthy so we back tracked instead. |

Noticed a pair of blue Tubbs snowshoes leaning on a tree at the junction of Zealand Road and Sugarloaf trail on the way in. Still there when we left. We left them there. |

 | Comments: |
Zealand Rd is firm all the way across with two hard packed tracks. We bare booted, but spikes would have a little better going up the hills. Sugarloaf trail is solidly packed with no loose snow and a small patch of here and there. We wore spikes and they worked fine, but would have preferred Hillsounds for a little more bite. No real sunshine today so it stayed firm all day. Snowshoes went for the ride today. Trestle trail is soft, supportive in places and in others you'll sink 2-6 inches. We didn't bother switching to shoes for such a short trail, figuring that our footsteps where we broke through would be filled in tonight [???]. |
