Skinned up the ski trail then snowshoed to South Doublehead and then returned to North to ski down. A couple areas of open ground/water toward the bottom of the ski trail. There were tracks around, but one required skiing across a small downed tree. Coming down it seemed safer to take off skis and walk across. Snow was a little sticky, but still a nice ski. Trail to South Doublehead does not appear to have had much recent traffic. Considerable drifting in the col between the peaks and trail was a little hard to follow in places. Snowshoes definitely helped through that section. The descent from and climb back to North Doublehead is steep and seemed fairly slick under the recent snow; good traction on snowshoes (MSR Lightning Ascents) proved helpful. Great views on a beautiful day! |
