Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking today. Moosaulike Ravine Road was firm at 8:30 and muddy on the way down at 4pm. Was grateful for my Subaru..
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Drifts, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes, Slush
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The bridges were mostly compact snow and wide enough for snowshoes. On the descent the last bridge is half bare and thin. Above the bridges along the gorge two snow bridges are breaking down fast, they are small and doable today, but it won’t be long. People have been going around the highest bridge in snowshoes.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is well maintained with some of the blazes almost in the snow as you get higher into the switchbacks.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Two great dogs loving this beautiful hike. One was better behaved than the other…and both were beautiful
Bugs
Bugs: Snow fleas at the trail head on the descent!! Lots.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Some great ladies found a key on a red lanyard. Not sure where they left it as I didn’t see it on my way down.

Comments
Comments: First let me say it was a perfect day for this mountain as we experienced different conditions to the summit which made for a wonderful hike up this mountain. Started out in spikes as the ground was frozen. It was 18 degrees at 8:30. By the Snapper Gorge Brook junction the snow really changed as we started some real elevation. We switched to shoes and never took them off. Grateful for the televators through this section plus the snow became soft and I needed to save some energy for this long climb with the majority of elevation gain. The trail really does need shoes, possibly nice fast sleds for the descent. Not this girl!! But it would be awesome….Met some great people on the the trail today. From the lot there was Guy and Gary making great headway in their snowshoes from start to finish. And we met the great ladies with their awesome dogs who passed us on the way down with their slick sleds. The ridges in the morning sun were very soft but such a great place to be! Views for miles of nothing but beautiful mountains!! The alpine zone was hard ice and wind blown with small drifts. So wondrous to my eyes it was almost overwhelming!! There was nothing about this hike I didn’t enjoy, even the effort because it was so worth it today!
