Trail crampons from the West Side rd lot up the Attiash Trail and to about 2400' on the Moat Mtn Trail. There are some bare patches on the Attitash Trail but it was pretty solid this morning. At 2400' on the Moat Mtn Trail, I switched to snowshoes because the trail was quite drifted in and I wanted the televators. There are some postholes, but for the most part, the trail is pretty pleasant and is a 1-3 foot trench where it hasn't drifted over. I'd hoped to do a North Moat/Red Ridge Loop on this hike but decided against it because the Moat Mtn Trail south of North Moat wasn't broken out and although I knew where it is supposed to be, I didn't relish breaking it alone or dying in a spruce trap. |
