Bushwhack from beginning to end, mostly a snow report. Still a nice, supportive crust atop a deep snowpack of multiple feet, more depth at elevation. No noticeable drifting along this route, just freeze/thaw cycled snow. Snow is becoming wet, soft and sticky by 9:30-10am when in full sun. I was back at my car at 10:30 this morning.
Departed the parking lot N/NE into okay woods, not too dense to start. Snowshoed to the east of the initial 3,020' bump off the Kanc and into thick woods nearing the col. Somewhere around 3,000' nearing the southern side of South Huntington the forest did open up for some nice, easy trekking - I could see boat-loads of spruce hiding under the deep snowpack, luckily at 8am the crust was still solid enough to hold my weight.
Good forest along the approach E/SE to East Huntington, few thick evergreen patches which could mostly be trekked around and avoided. Thicker as elevation was gained going up to the high point. Good bit of thick krummholz band along the eastern side but rewards with stunning views, more of which can be had just east of the true summit. Looped around south off the summit to meet up with my tracks.
