Comments
Comments: The initial “road walk” is still snow covered, but soft enough to bare boot with only a few inches of granulated snow. Met a few friendly hikers on the way out whose snowshoes had gone for a free ride, so left ours in the car and used Hillsound Pros. Trail was in fine condition, firmly frozen despite the previous day’s warm up. Several frozen post holes in first mile, less so after that. Not enough of a base left for a trench (snow has about an 8-10in base), but trail easily recognizable. Ledges at the summit were partially covered with snow and water from snowmelt, extra caution needed when that freezes. Both tunnels had a thick layer of ice from the snowmelt, bare booting definitely not recommended for these sections. Snowpack is high enough for peekaboo view of the Franconia Range. Awesome views for sunset!
