Lots of spring snow. Saw some in spikes, others carrying them. What you really need are retractable spikes (if only!) because as soon as you cross a patch of snow, it’s bare rock again. The summit is bare and dry, but the trails in the woods are still a mix of snow, rock and mud. I ended up barebooting the whole way and only fell once — on a patch of wet leaves. Tricky going but worth it — had the summit to myself for the first time ever! There are a few icy patches but these were easily avoided. Thinking so much about where to put my feet slowed me down — I would allow extra time if you head out while the snow is still around. |
