Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Road was dry and easily drivable, some wayward potholes but nothing that required Richard Petty maneuvering. Parking lot clear of snow/mud
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery, Snow/Ice - Postholes, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Waterfalls are the word of the day! All snow bridges have departed, and with exception of one, easily hopped across. One crossing about .6 in requires a work around but it’s easily recognizable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No blow downs, a few small branches that we moved off trail, one section about 1 mile in flooding from stream overflow
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One aggressive, unleashed doggo in the parking lot whose owner kept yelling from 20 feet away, “he’s friendly!” while the dog growled, barked and lunged at us next to our car. Do better, folks
Bugs
Bugs: One lonely mosquito-type bug that looked like he regret his life choices

Comments
Comments: Start your engines, campers, it’s SHOULDER SEASON! Mt Israel’s pine-laden trails were free of snow and ice until around 1600ft, then on went the Hillsound Pro’s! A thin, stable monorail was still present earlier in the day, but any deviation to the left or right meant postholing to your knees and thighs, and by mid-afternoon the sun was wreaking havoc on the non-shaded spots. Despite the heavy gusts, we encountered very few branches and zero blow downs. Water crossings were all easily hoppable, except the big waterfall about .6 miles in, which required a little detour, but relatively easy to manage. Tonight’s cold snap should re-firm the trail, but be warned, hiking in the afternoon would warrant snowshoes for the last .5 miles to the summit.
