 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking lot plowed and relatively mud-free. And can we take a minute to thank the forestry folks for the awesome CABO?! |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes, Slush |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
There are three unbridged water crossings within the first two miles. Be careful to check for ice, as hubby took a header halfway across one and had to wear the sandwich bag of shame over his spare dry socks. Other crossings are on their last legs. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Several duck-unders, leaners, and debris from windstorm littering the trail. A few blowdowns easily walked around. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
None at all…such a sad day |

 | Comments: |
Trail starts off with patchy hardened snow, then rapidly switches back and forth between mud, mush, unstable monorail, and back to firm trail. Started off with Hillsounds, which worked ok until 1800 feet, which was when the trail went belly up and snowshoes were the only thing keeping us from falling into the center of the earth. Trail is in rough shape from barebooters and a REALLY HUGE MOOSE. Yowza. Peeped the Northern Presi’s and the Baldfaces from the summit, used snowshoes for the entire descent to mitigate the ankle rodeo, and hubby avoided another Baldface Circle Trail baptism, so overall a pretty good day, despite shoulder season in full swing |
