Went up for sunrise, and was pleased to find the trail in firm condition, perfect for Hillsound Pro’s. Switched to Tubbs at the junction for S. Doublehead, as that trail is wicked steep and has a fair amount of frozen post holes. South Doublehead has multiple herd paths at the intersection, which made for a fun Easter egg hunt in the dark, make sure you follow the right one as there are zero trail markers after the sign. Snowpack is still pretty high up there, had to duck under several spruce. Trail from South to North is also in great shape, trail firm with very few post holes, several stretches of ice, so would definitely advise CCW travel…that would NOT have been any fun descending. Trail to cabin, CABO and overlook nicely broken out, and Mt Washington was putting on a show! Ski Trail back down to the trailhead was free of postholes and firm enough for just Hillsounds, despite the above 32 temps and full sun. I suspect this trail will remain in great shape for a bit because it’s been packed down so well from the skiers. |
