This hike with the current conditions is not for the faint of heart. The trail to Webster is unstable snow with lots of post holes. Slick and slippery. A mess. But that wasn't even the worst part. The rivers are running fast and high due to the snow melt and there are two insane river crossings. We saw two people turn around after the first one before the Jackson-Webster split. We managed by bushwhacking to a log and walked across that way. But if you fall you're screwed. We thought it couldn't get any worse.. then we got to Silver Cascade. The descent and ascent of that cascade is treacherously steep and slick with the unstable snow. And the crossing was crazy. Its one of those that if you slip you will probably die because you will fall into a deep raging rapid. There was just enough snow cover to get us to a line rock in the middle. Scary beyond belief. After tomorrow's rain and with more snow melt all bets are off. I would stay away until the water level recedes a bit. Unless you're masochistic. Good luck! |
