Gorgeous low/no wind day with brilliant sun and VERY warm temps. We were sweating in short sleeves. Much warmer than predicted (it felt like 80 but I'm sure it was more like 50). Snow was essentially gone on the ridge except for a very small section heading up Monroe. Ammo was packed and stable in the morning. Lots of running water on Crawford path heading up Washington, but last year's (or was it the year before?) rockwork has improved things so there was usually a dry place to step. Jewell was a slippery slushie on the way down in the late afternoon with a rotting unstable monorail and lots of deep postholes and detritus on the trail from some big winds. Lower down, when the snowpack thinned out, the trail became firmer and flatter and faster with some small patches of grippy ice which was very welcome. The hard freeze this week will make all of this very interesting for a few days. Great day with great people and many Congratulations to Marc for finishing the grid!!! Woot, woot! |
