Comments
Comments: This was my dog’s final Ossipee 10 hike and we had to use the unused Gorilla trail to get to Mount Flagg, which was only scary because I was thinking about the moose and coyote poop we found in abundance, though no animals sightings happened. I also lost the trail multiple times but my Gaia map on my phone helped me find it (and having hiked this before in autumn helped a lot) - I’d only recommend people take this trail who have done it before at this point because it has a lot of deep snow drifts from Shaw summit down to about 2600’ which make the trail markers invisible (most are on the rocks themselves) - otherwise the route to Flagg was mostly great!
As for the rest, I was happy to see no snow on the High Ridge trail until after the junction with Turtleback Mtn trail - from there up to Shaw, there were large thin areas of snowpack that I mostly didn’t break through and were barebootable - I had spikes but didn’t use them anywhere. Oakridge cutoff was a mud river and very deep in places (waterproof knee socks was the way to fall into puddles here and the deep snow drifts on Gorilla trail). The rest of the trails were dry with patches of water and mud. Shouldn’t be too much longer before the rivers running through the trails taper off!
