Mt. Roberts Trail was mostly snow free with a few small patches starting around 2,250 feet. Some minor mud, but nothing too bad.
High Ridge Trail had patchy snow descending Roberts and then had a fair amount of snow near the ponds below Faraway. That section will be pretty rough once the packed snow breaks down. Not a long enough stretch to justify snowshoes, but it's still more than a foot deep.
Access road to Faraway 2,782' had some snowy parts. If continuing to Black Snout (not to be confused with Black Snoot), I would want to have snowshoes at least with me.
Not much snow to contend with on the High Ridge Trail southbound after Faraway. Some muddy sections on Faraway Mountain Trail, but generally good going.
Trailing arbutus and yellow violet in bloom.
Partly sunny morning giving way to clouds. Temperatures in the 50s. Not too crowded on these trails at these times (only saw maybe half a dozen people). Nice to avoid the more vexing shoulder season conditions up north. |
