Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The water crossing was a no-go for me, today - it was running high enough that I would have been mid-shin for multiple steps. I saw another hiker who had crossed it and had soaked pants. The work-around is to continue out on the Three Ponds Trail until it crosses the brook on a big bridge. Right after the bridge you take a left on an old road. It’s muddy but it leads you directly down to the trail. The work-around added more than 2 miles to my day, but it was the safe option for me.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Get out your chainsaws, folks. There are multiple large blowdowns (at least a half dozen). This trail had a rough winter!

Comments: TRILLIUM!!!!! TRILLIUM!!!!! They are just about to pop, as my friend CG will say. And there are a gazillion of them. Yay!
The trail is quite muddy, as expected. Snow started at 2500’ and though I pulled on my rock spikes out of habit, I don’t know that they helped. The snow depth is so variable and the little climbs are so torturous that I think snowshoes would be a hindrance not a help. However the postholing is an issue and it’s a tedious final 0.8 miles to the summit. Additionally there is a lot of running water on the trail, which adds to the complexity.
Three other hikers on this today. Two did a traverse (wowza) and one did out and back like me.
Wait, did I mention the trillium??!!! They make the whole thing worthwhile!!
