I did not know before reaching the East Peak that there were two high points on Rowes. There is an East peak at around 1700’ and the Rowes summit at 1940’. Some maps, including Gaia, list the 1700’ peak as the main peak and this is incorrect. There is a jar on the East Peak and it only had the originator’s info logged and it listed the peak as one of NH 1000’s. I did not know such a list existed, but if anyone knows of it and would be willing to email me with more details, I’d appreciate it!
From the East Peak I followed blue blazes along an old stone wall that featured a decaying barbed wire fence basically all the way to the Rowes summit. The blue blazes indicate the Low State Forest boundary and was quite helpful in maintaining a straight line without a compass.
Unfortunately, the black nylon Honda battery bag that holds the pencil/paper to log in with was saturated inside and the plastic bag holding its contents was not sealed correctly, so the paper is basically unreadable. I tried to sign it, but to no avail and it was too wet with no sun to try and dry it out, so just sealed it up and put it back. |
