parked at the beginning of Orr Hill Road at the little parking area. I took my low clearance vehicle slowly over the bump and was fine.

About 0.7 mile up the trail, I came across a mama bear and her 2 babies. They saw me and seemed to panic, one running into the woods on the left, the other 2 running into the woods on the right. Finally the 2 on the right ran across the road to the left and I thought they had all run off together, so I started up the trail again, only to see they all had climbed a large pine tree directly on the side of the road. The woods on both sides of the trail were posted, so I didn't bushwhack around them. Rather than become a headline, I turned and went back to my car. I'll come back in winter when they're all taking a long nap. |
