Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing of note.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The wooded section of the trail between Middle Moat and North Moat has a couple of scruffy, walk-around, softwood blowdowns -- would be easy to remove with a Silky Saw. Some of the re-routed sections south of South Moat have a number "punji stick" toe-stubbing sapling stumps that could probably stand being cut flush with the ground.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The one very small (and well behaved) dog we encountered had no issues whatsoever with any section of the trail except the 3-4 rocky scrambles near the summit of North Moat. (We were well impressed.)
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies were a bit annoying at lower elevation in breeze-less spots.

Comments
Comments: We did an out-and-back from the Passaconaway Road trailhead. Had the trail to ourselves all day save for one very nice hiker whom we bumped into over the course of the day, along with her absolutely adorable dog Polly.

Last time we did this route was almost eight years ago -- we noticed a number of changes to the trail, mainly the re-routes on the approach to South Moat, from the south. Quite a bit of very hard work has gone into making improvements to this section.

The ledges on Middle Moat are always a treat -- spent some time relaxing there looking at the fine views, including of the snow on Mount Washington.
