The Mt Tremont Trail is in pretty good shape! (Especially considering the last post for Tremont in mid-April.) A lot of dry trail on the lower half, with patches of mud and running water occasionally. The mud and water are largely avoidable by rock hopping. A few downed trees to go around and lots of brush on the trail. Began to encounter patches of snow around 2500 feet. Most stretches were short, with a few longer stretches closer to the summit. No traction necessary -- very easily navigated. Poles were helpful to balance on a couple of icy patches. Great views from the summit ledge; the valley below was a hazy green as the trees are just beginning to leaf out. Continued onto Owls Cliff on the Brunel Trail. Completely dry and snow free since it's south-facing. Lots of trout lily growing right on the trail down at the col, and a small handful of red trillium just opening up. |
