 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Rock hops, foot bridge next to Welton Falls Rd bridge (blocked by closed gate) |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails were in great shape. Exception was the Elwell Tr West, which may be private (?); Multiple blow downs after the split with trail heading east. One section difficult getting through/following trail. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Cooper had a blast. Plenty of water on the trails for the thirsty pup, especially at lower elevations. Less on the Elwell trail. Several substantial stream crossings to really drink and relax. |
|
 | Bugs: |
They were bad when one stopped especially in the sun. Not as bad in the woods, maybe 'cause I kept moving. |

 | Comments: |
Trails very well blazed in yellow, some w/multiple cairns, and were easy to follow. Couple of blowdowns, mostly as noted above, but there were a few others that were easy to get around. Crews have done a great job cleaning up the trails. Signage with distances at all intersections. Only problem I had was coming of Mowglis where there were 2 trails (both blazed yellow) with signs. The map at the lodge did not show 2 trails. I followed the cairn and took the wrong trail, and had to double back.
Hundreds, maybe thousands of yellow trout lilies in full bloom lined the sides of the Back80 trail. Incredible seeing so many. And painted trilliums, yellow & purple violets, spring beauty, and even wild oats were blooming. At higher elevations on the Elwell trail, the forest changed to soft woods and the trail was a carpet of pine needles and moss; just beautiful greens this time of the year. Saw no one else the entire day. |
