Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I always feel like I am pulling into someone’s driveway when I go to the trailhead off 118. :). Plenty of parking - mine was the only car there today.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Oh my starry stars, the Hubbard Brook Trail had a really, really rough winter. The blowdowns had blowdowns on top of them. It’s a chainsaw-palooza waiting to happen, that’s for sure. The blazing really helped because the blowdowns frequently fully obstructed the path so trail finding was a challenge. Donkey Hill Cutoff has almost no blowdowns or limb litter but it does have the very most impressive widow maker that I have ever seen. It’s a guillotine tree. I have a photo - message me if you would like it. The other two trails definitely have some chainsaw needs but aren’t as sad as Hubbard Brook is. Additionally, there is a trail sign that is broken in half. It about a mile or so down from the 118 trailhead on the Three Ponds Trail. I have a photo of that as well.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw no one today, and no dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Yup. Black flies, ticks; all of the troublemakers were at the party.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing today.

Comments
Comments: I hiked this loop counterclockwise starting from the trailhead adjacent to 118: Three Ponds, Donkey Hill Cutoff, Mt Kineo, road walk, Hubbard Brook. There is one swampy section on Three Ponds - bring your compactor trash bags and microspikes - you won’t be sorry. Other than that the mud is plentiful but rock-hoppable. Hubbard Brook was a bit slow footing due to all of the blowdowns but otherwise trail conditions are fast. Lots of moose sign but I didn’t see any today!
